A National Champion is Crowned+NBA Wednesday

It’s all over, ladies and gentlemen. The Ohio State Buckeyes are your 2025 National Champions. Ohio State’s offense led the team to a dominant victory (and an easy cover that Ballers predicted in the last newsletter), with the Buckeyes rattling off 31 unanswered points in the second and third quarters. Despite newfound gold, Ohio State head coach Ryan Day seemingly can’t escape his lone loss on the season in the eyes of fans.

The Natty is nice, but losing to Michigan is forever.

NBA Wednesday: More Great Games

Martin Luther King Jr. Day featured some excellent matchups on paper, but only one game turned out to be a competitive game. The opposite of that should be true for Wednesday’s slate, which features two matchups between championship hopefuls that will be covered here.

Minnesota Timberwolves (-136) vs. Dallas Mavericks (+116):

A Western Conference Finals rematch is nearly a guarantee to entertain. The Mavericks will look to defend their home court without some key pieces, as starters Klay Thompson and Dereck Lively are both questionable. Thompson will likely play, but the absences of Lively and star guard Luka Doncic could loom large against a talented opponent.

The Timberwolves aren’t playing their best basketball, but the benefit of health could tip the scales in their favor. After a close loss to the Memphis Grizzlies on Monday, Minnesota should be able to flip the script and eke out a win against a Mavs team that just dropped a game against the lowly Charlotte Hornets. Hammer the Timberwolves to cover their two-point spread as favorites (-110).

Cleveland Cavaliers (-126) vs. Houston Rockets (+108):

If I had told you that a Cavs-Rockets game would be between the first and second seeds in their respective conferences, you would’ve called me insane. Cleveland has been completely dominant, losing only six games all season while consistently taking out top competition. The star power of Donovan Mitchell, depth, and defensive capabilities define the first promising Cavaliers team in years.

Cleveland enters this game at -1.5, a frankly ridiculous line against a Rockets team that is good but not all that good. The books consistently underrate the Cavaliers, and we made some money on them on Monday. If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it. Taking the spread and parlaying it with the Timberwolves pick yields +264 odds. Ballers went 3/3 on Monday’s NBA picks, so here’s to keeping things rolling.

Jazz vs. Thunder Player Prop Parlay

This might seem like a strange game to select, but the game script surrounding what should be a blowout is incredibly helpful in selecting props. There are a couple of very appealing selections here that will hopefully turn into some cold, hard cash.

Shai Gilgeous-Alexander Under 5.5 Rebounds

This is one of the better lines in the entirety of Wednesday’s slate. SGA has gone under this number in each of the last three games he’s played, and now the Thunder are facing a team they’ll likely beat by 20. Gilgeous-Alexander should be on the bench early in the fourth quarter, so this is definitely worth a look.

Walker Kessler Over 8.5 Points

Kessler hasn’t been a great scorer this season, but this is an insanely low line, far too low to resist. John Collins is out and Lauri Markannen is questionable, while OKC’s starting center, Isaiah Hartenstein, will also miss this game.

It’s the perfect storm for Kessler to crack this over, which he’s done in each of his last nine games.

Jaylin Williams Over 6.5 Rebounds

The aforementioned Hartenstein injury will press Williams into starting duty and presumably a solid minutes load. The last four times the Arkansas product played more than 15 minutes, he cleared the over easily. As the starter, Williams should receive all the playing time he needs to snatch seven boards, even if the Thunder maintain a big lead throughout the game.

For all of you daily fantasy players, this 3-leg parlay could turn ten bucks into nearly 60 on Underdog.

Even More NFL Head Coaching News

You’d better check the sky for pigs. Something finally went right for the Chicago Bears. After years of front office decisions ranging from questionable to downright awful, it seems that Da Bears have gotten one right.

Former Detroit Lions offensive coordinator Ben Johnson has been announced as Chicago’s new head coach. The most coveted coaching hire of the cycle chose the Windy City over all other suitors, indicating his decision-making processes might not be as sharp as we think they are.

Rumors: NBA Trade Rumors Heat Up

It’s almost the second-best time of the year. The NBA trade deadline doesn’t quite match up to Christmas, but it’s damn close. The deadline is February 6th, ensuring a flurry of trades in the coming weeks. Here’s the latest buzz surrounding players likely to be on the move.

Kyle Kuzma

Kuzma is an anomaly on the Washington Wizards. The talented veteran is wasting away on one of the worst teams in the league for the fifth season in a row. Both he and the Wizards would benefit from a trade, ideally to a contending team.

A return to the Los Angeles Lakers isn’t out of the question, while another California team, the Sacramento Kings, is also in play. Kuzma wouldn’t demand a huge price, but any return would be beneficial for the disastrous Washington roster.

Jusuf Nurkic

The Phoenix Suns have a couple of guys who might be on the move. Nurkic has fallen out of favor, as evidenced by his benching for Mason Plumlee, a move that is certainly indicative of Nurkic’s play.

Once again, the Lakers have been linked to the center. It would be a decidedly Los Angeles move to acquire an overpriced, past-his-prime center to round out a mediocre roster. Timofey Mozgov, anyone?

Bradley Beal

Beal is another misadventure by the Suns’ front office. He’s being paid like a superstar and playing more like a guy like Gary Trent Jr. Actually, that might be a little insulting to Trent. Moving Beal will be a task, as his no-trade clause essentially allows him to pick and choose which teams he would go to.
