Championship Sunday: Commanders vs. Eagles

There were Washington believers coming into Sunday, but they were few and far between. The Eagles showed why throughout all four quarters, dominating every facet of the game for its entirety.

Philly’s first offensive snap was a microcosm of what was to come. Saquon Barkley barreled through defenders, spinning out of tackles on his way to a 60-yard touchdown. The Commanders would fail to stop the run the rest of the game, allowing 232 yards and a whopping six rushing touchdowns.

On the other side of the ball, Washington’s offense was plagued by self-inflicted wounds. Three fumbles essentially spelled doom, as rookie Jayden Daniels needed to guide a perfect offensive showing for the Commanders to have any chance. The lack of efficient run-blocking put far too much pressure on Daniels, allowing Philadelphia’s defensive line to run rampant in their pursuit of the young signal-caller.

For the Eagles, it was a dominant win, a rebound of sorts from a knock-down, drag-out affair against the Rams in the Divisional Round. For the Commanders, it was a bitter end to the sweetest season in years, one that’ll surely linger into next campaign. A 30-point playoff loss is tough to swallow, especially at the hands of a division rival.

Championship Sunday: Bills vs. Chiefs

The nightcap was significantly more entertaining than the afternoon game. Josh Allen and Patrick Mahomes traded blows in another game that felt like a heavyweight boxing match.

In the end, it would be the positional excellence of Mahomes that set up a knockout blow. His passing stat line looks mediocre, but he was the picture of winning football on Sunday evening. The ball came out quickly, and rushing lanes were exploited time and time again. Against the blitz, Mahomes delivered on time and with accuracy. His one blemish, a fumble on an exchange with running back Isiah Pacheco, was a mistake of chance, not of error.

While Mahomes set up the KO, Kansas City’s defense delivered the final punch. Coordinator Steve Spagnuolo’s unit was stingy all night, particularly against Josh Allen’s Tush Push attempts, a play previously thought of as indefensible.

The Tush Push stands were impressive, but the true highlight came on the final Bills drive of the game. With two minutes on the clock on 4th and 5, Allen dropped back to pass one final time. Spagnuolo sent his corner on a blitz off of the right side, completely overloading Buffalo’s offensive line. Allen desperately scrambled and hucked up a prayer, but one that would not be answered.

In perhaps the best offensive game of the season for the Chiefs, it was their defense that made a crucial, gutsy play when they needed it most. Andy Reid and his crew has to feel that they’re operating at their best heading into an opportunity to make NFL history with a threepeat.

Rockets-Celtics Player Prop Parlay

Enough recapping. It’s time for some good old-fashioned gambling. The game between the Rockets and the Celtics promises to be both a good watch and a solid moneymaking opportunity. Let’s get into the picks.

Fred VanVleet Over 14.5 Points (-113)

This line will almost certainly be a sweat, but it’s worth including. VanVleet has been hot, scoring 20 or more in each of his last three games. The Celtics are an elite defensive team, but the opportunity VanVleet gets should compensate for the tougher matchup.

He’s handled at least 35 minutes in his last nine games, a number that will allow him plenty of time with the ball in his hands and the scoring opportunities that come with it.

Amen Thompson Over 9.5 Rebounds (-132)

Ten rebounds for a guard seems absolutely ridiculous, but you’ve gotta trust the process here. Thompson is a monster rebounder, arguably the best at his position. In his last two games against the Cavaliers, Thompson dropped a combined 30 rebounds.

The Cavs allow 9.6 rebounds per game to shooting guards, while the Celtics allow even more at 9.9 per game. Thompson is a good bet here.

Jalen Green Over 3.5 Assists (-136)

Betting unders is for suckers. Where’s the fun in those? The third and final pick is another over, one that evokes a decent amount of confidence. Green has logged four or more assists in six of his last seven games, and here’s a contest where he’ll have another heavy minutes load while drawing lots of defensive attention. Easy throw here.

Combined, this parlay nets +394 odds. Nothing too crazy, but nothing to scoff at.

NBA Quick Hitters

Monday brings a full slate of NBA action, so it’s time to make some game picks. Last time out wasn’t the hottest, but money made in pursuit of a loss is even sweeter than money made normally. At least that’s what I’ve heard. Here’s a look at the odds.

Lakers vs. Hornets

The Lakers will enter this game as a shockingly small favorite. They’re coming off of back-to-back wins against the Warriors and Celtics and should keep the momentum going against an awful, but exciting, Hornets team.

Anthony Davis and LeBron James are both probable, and if they do suit up, -6 looks real nice.

Magic vs. Heat

The Heat are home underdogs here. That’s hard to believe given how mediocre Orlando has been, especially given the fact that starting point guard Jalen Suggs will likely sit this out with a quad injury. A sprinkle on Miami’s spread or money line makes a lot of sense.

Grizzlies vs. Knicks

In what will probably be the best game of Monday night’s slate, no spread or money line option looks particularly appealing. Instead, the under has some allure. Both teams are ranked top five in defensive efficiency on the season, and 242.5 is quite a number. Betting unders might be for suckers, but I think I have to break my own rule in this game.

A cheeky little three-legger on these games nets a solid +614 payout, a juicier number than the player prop lay, but one that comes with considerably more risk.
