Remember, these are preseason games, so coaches will rest starters, and game plans may be different than what we see in the regular season.

Nonetheless, these matchups should offer a great preview of the teams' depth and the young talent looking to make an impact.

The best bets are on teams where the backup quarterbacks are looking to prove themselves, or new notable quarterbacks or coaches are on new teams.

These include:

• San Francisco 49ers vs. Las Vegas Raiders with Trey Lance and Sam Darnold vying for spots on the team. Also there’s the possibility that Jimmy Garoppolo will suit up as he new QB of the Raiders.

• New York Jets vs. Carolina Panthers with Aaron Rodgers making his first appearance as the Jets QB.

• Denver Broncos vs. Arizona Cardinals with Sean Payton newly at the helm of the team.

NFL Fantasy Tip

Ok, you’re drafting your team. You’re in the first round. Who do you take?

Common wisdom: Top RB, WR or Travis Kelce.

Top Target: Justin Jefferson

Jefferson was the clear top wide receiver last season, and he is showing no signs of slowing down.

• He led all wide receivers last season with 7.5 receptions per game for 106.4 yards and 21.7 PPR points.

• He has achieved a 90.0-plus PFF receiving grade in all three seasons of his NFL career.

• He recently turned 24 years old, so he’s still at a point in his career where he should be improving.

• Among the elite wide receiver options, he has the best combination of great offense, offense and not as much competition for targets.

Possible Targets: Ja'Marr Chase, Christian McCaffrey, Austin Ekeler, Bijan Robinson, Travis Kelce

NCAAF Early Matchups

The odds for the National Championship are out, with Georgia leading the way and Alabama close behind.

Even thought he games don’t kick off until August 26th, the lines are out for NCAAF games through 9/4.
