Florida’s Key Players

• G Walter Clayton Jr.: Clayton continues his run as one of the best players in the nation. He poured in 34 points against Auburn, leading the Gators in scoring by a huge margin. He can score in any phase of the game from anywhere on the floor, a skillset that will be put to use against a Cougars defense that is sure to send a variety of defensive looks towards Florida’s star.

• G Alijah Martin: Martin was featured on this section last time too, and he lived up to the billing, scoring 17 points against the Tigers as second fiddle to Clayton. Given Houston’s swarming defensive approach, it’s likely that Martin gets a variety of opportunities to slash to the hoop and create plays.

Houston’s Key Players

• G LJ Cryer: Cryer is the Cougars’ version of Clayton, a shifty guard who is relied on to do the majority of the scoring. His last game out was a good one as he scored 26 points while shooting 66% from three. A replicant of that shooting percentage is nearly impossible, but Cryer should have an efficient, high-scoring outing once more.

• G Emanuel Sharp: Sharp is the designated sniper for this Houston team, but that’s not all he is. He can score off the dribble, in the post, and just about every other way. Keeping up with the Gators won’t be easy, so Sharp will need a big game to keep the Cougs in.

Final Pick

The Gators have been on an absolute tear lately, but they will meet their match in Houston. The Cougars’ ability to swarm opposing players on defense should limit Clayton more than any opponent Florida has faced so far. That, combined with efficient scoring from Cryer and Sharp should lead to a Houston win.
