NBA Friday Quick Hitters

🔹 Sharp Money Alert: The Pistons, fresh off of a buzzer-beating finish (one that sold our prop parlay) against the Heat, have moved to 9.5-point favorites against the Mavericks. This newsletter will remain biased against Dallas for the rest of the season, so we’re happy to fade them again as long as they stay as single-digit dogs.

🔹 Odds Boost to Grab: Sleeper Picks is currently offering a 100% deposit match up to $1,500, compared to a 50% deposit match from Underdog. If you need a new book, Sleeper is worth a gander.

🔹 Trap Game Warning: The Nuggets are taking 75% of the money as 1.5-point dogs to the Trail Blazers. Denver is dealing with a ton of injuries, but we’ll still back them here. The Blazers recently lost to Utah when the Jazz were missing four starters, so it’s a little surprising to see the Nuggets at plus money here.

UFC Picks and Fades

Edwards vs. Brady looks like one of the best Fight Nights of the year, with fun fights, great prospects, and meaningful matchups at every possible junction. Let’s get into the picks for this excellent morning card.

Lock of the Night: Guram Kutateladze (-430)

Hardcore fans will remember Kutateladze as one of the most hyped lightweight prospects in recent memory, and while he isn’t that anymore, he’s still a technically elite 155er. Kaue Fernandez is being handed to him to build a win streak, and Guram should oblige in any way he wants.

Fade of the Night: Nathaniel Wood vs. Morgan Charriere

What should be a fantastic featherweight matchup between a hometown hero and a Frenchman is without any good bets. Wood has been chinned a couple of times in the UFC making him a risky bet, but Charriere is still a largely unproven prospect against a crafty, dangerous veteran. Best to let this one pass without money on the line.

Upset of the Night: Andrey Pulyaev vs. Christian Leroy Duncan

We love betting against Duncan over here. He’s British, so his lines on his home soil are consistently juiced to far larger odds than they should be. Pulyaev is a nasty striker with excellent cardio and solid grappling, and while he should be a dog here, it should be closer to +150. These odds are just ludicrous, partially because there’s a Brit involved.

Performance of the Night: Lone’er Kavanaugh vs. Felipe Dos Santos

For some reason, unknown flyweights have a tendency to go to war on the prelims. This fight will be no exception as one of the brightest young prospects of the division, Kavanaugh, faces an all gas fighter in Dos Santos. This should be a barn burner until Dos Santos drowns Kavanaugh with a barrage of punches or gets caught by a precision cross or head kick. Either way it’ll be in the running for an extra 50 Gs from Dana White.

Snoozer of the Night: Marcin Tybura vs. Mick Parkin

Heavyweight action always has a high chance of sleepiness, and that’s certainly true for this matchup. Parkin is a kickboxer, but one that relies on jabs, leg kicks, and overall volume. Tybura isn’t exactly Charles Oliveira either, preferring to keep his striking pretty safe and his grappling control-based. This will almost certainly go to the scorecards.

Parlay Bet: 3-Leg Spread on FanDuel

  • Leg 1: Guram Kutateladze – (-430)

  • Leg 2: Andrey Pulyaev – (+410)

  • Leg 3: Tybura vs. Parkin GTD – (-174)

March Madness: Oklahoma vs. UConn Pick

The Oklahoma Sooners will take on the UConn Huskies in the second matchup of the day between eight and nine seeds. We hit both of these picks in Wednesday’s newsletter, so the heater is just beginning. Here’s a look at the odds.

Oklahoma’s Key Players

  • G Jeremiah Fears: Fears, a freshman, is a wonderful player, but has had his struggles from the field throughout the season. His efficiency has been a constant concern, and a series of bad takes could be enough to end Oklahoma’s season. He’ll need to make smart decisions and lean on his teammates to keep the Sooners in the game.

  • F Jalon Moore: Moore is the opposite of Fears. He’s the elder statesman of the team who plays intelligent, efficient basketball while rebounding at a high level. He will be the key to this game, as his experience and poise make him a more appealing option than Fears.

UConn’s Key Players

  • F Liam McNeeley: Any of the five UConn starters could’ve taken this spot, but we’ll start with another fantastic freshman. McNeeley is an excellent scorer and rebounder, but like Fears, his efficiency struggles have a chance to sink his team in critical moments. If he can contribute solidly through the first 30 minutes the Huskies should be in good shape.

  • C Tarris Reed Jr.: UConn’s scorers would be a fine highlight here, but Reed’s ability to shut down the paint and rebound well is crucial to winning in every single game. If he’s able to play enforcer down low effectively, and for a heavy minutes load, the pace of the game should slow significantly to UConn’s benefit.

ATS Stats to Know

  • The Sooners are 2-1 ATS as away underdogs.

  • The Sooners are 3-2 ATS in non-conference games

  • The Sooners are 0-3 ATS in neutral site games.

  • The Huskies are 4-2 ATS against ranked opponents.

  • The Huskies are 6-4-1 ATS against non-conference opponents.

Final Pick

It’s hard to fade UConn here. They’re a deeper, more experienced team with an edge in coaching. We’ll back them for our first pick on the favorite of March Madness.
